Meet our coaches

We are Madison’s only youth triathlon team that caters to kids and teens between the ages of 8-18. We strive to provide a fostering, safe and educational environment. Our coaches are focused on developing a fun and cohesive culture.

Our practices are not only fun, but we will educate your athlete about the safety of triathlon and the rules of the sport so that they feel confident going into their races. We hope that this confidence extends to other areas of their lives in the future. Thanks for joining our team! Read more about our coaches below.

Taylor Jackson

Taylor’s path to triathlon began in 2021, building on a lifelong love of swimming that started when she was six. She has nearly a decade of experience in coaching youth swimmers, with local summer & rec teams in the Madison area as well as back in Maryland, where she grew up. Taylor is passionate about helping young athletes have fun while developing their skills as well as confidence not only in their sport, but in life.

Outside of triathlon, she works for a youth-serving nonprofit and is dedicated to empowering young people to reach their goals. Taylor’s goal as a coach is to create a fun and encouraging environment where every athlete feels supported and inspired to challenge themselves to new heights.

Taylor recently raced 70.3 New Zealand in December of 2024 and 70.3 St. George in May of 2025. Both being very challenging courses.

My triathlon journey began in 2023 as a motivated spectator at the Ironman Wisconsin finish line. Since then, I’ve completed 2 Ironmans, a 70.3, and several Olympic-distance races—my favorite distance, where I’ve also earned a podium finish.

Swimming is my favorite discipline, and I love big challenges like the 100x100 meter swim. More than anything, I enjoy helping young athletes discover that same excitement for the sport. I’m patient, encouraging, and passionate about keeping training fun, engaging, and rewarding for kids.

For me, triathlon is about more than numbers—it’s about building confidence, developing mental strength, and growing a love for being active. Whether an athlete is just starting out or pushing toward new goals, I want them to have fun, feel supported, and believe in what they can accomplish.

I am a special education teacher currently serving in the Deerfield Community School District. Over the past nine years, I have had the privilege of teaching students across a wide range of abilities and grade levels. In addition to my work in education, I have coached multiple sports—including volleyball, basketball, football, baseball, and softball—where I’ve enjoyed sharing my passion for athletics and helping young athletes reach both their personal and athletic goals.

Pursuing triathlon and completing an Ironman has long been a personal aspiration of mine. After relocating to Madison in 2021, I began actively working toward that goal, starting with running and participating in various races. In November 2024, I began training for my first triathlon. Since then, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the sport and the many challenges and humbling experiences it brings.

Through training, I’ve seen significant growth in my mental and physical resilience. My self-confidence and overall capabilities as an athlete have also improved. As a coach, my goal is to help instill these same values in our athletes. I want to empower them to recognize their achievements, build confidence, and celebrate each milestone along the way.

Welcome to CAT! I’m excited to support you on your journey and help you achieve your goals.

My triathlon journey started in college at UW-Madison.  I joined the UW Triathlon club and went to collegiate nationals a couple of times.  I had a lot of great training partners that were doing Ironman Wisconsin and I figured I would try that out as well.  Over the years I've done many races.  I placed well enough at Age Group Nationals one year to be able to travel to Beijing to race as a Team USA athlete.  One year I won the Wisconsin Triathlon Series.  I used to enjoy racing more than training but as Ive gotten older i just enjoy spending time being active.  Outside of triathlon I also enjoy cross country skiing, rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking.

I'm currently a stay at home dad to four wonderful active kids.  My oldest is a great swimmer and has already started her own triathlon journey.   She wants to keep getting better and is excited to make new friends and learn new things with the Capital Area Youth Triathlon Club.

Lately I'm getting back to my roots and spending more time running.  I'm training for a marathon and plan on doing a couple training cycles and seeing if I can run a personal best in the next year.
